About IamtheGriffin

Introduction - What is it like being a Cosplayer?

Being a cosplayer is a ton of fun in multiple ways. Personally, I love the act of actually creating something with a goal in mind. Then, of course, there's actually getting to wear and show off what you've made. It's a great feeling when people want to stop and take a picture with something you made yourself.

What are your next goals?

World domination? Honestly, I do Cosplay for the love of it but I wouldn't mind getting noticed for it. I love helping new cosplayers because I remember when I was a rookie too and it seems like most "famous" cosplayers are too busy to answer questions or post how-to walkthrough a and such.

Cosplay Characters

My very first Cosplay was Nightcrawler fro X-Men. Since then I've done multiple versions of The Joker including The Dark Knight, Arkham City, and classic Joker. I've also done Hawke from Dragon Age 2, Ezio from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3, and am currently working on an armored Deadpool inspired by Deathstroke's look in Arkham Origins.

What does Cosplay mean to you?

Cosplaying your favorite character is fulfilling that inner child that wants to dress up for Halloween every day. It's just fun! Put on an Assassin's Creed costume and just TRY not to start climbing random things!

Who have been your biggest influences/role models/mentors?

No one in particular. Jessica Nigri and was one of the first people I noticed to be a "professional cosplayer" but really if just see these cool costumes on the Internet and wonder if I could ever make anything that cool.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for upcoming Cosplayers?

Most people would suggest WORBLA but if you're on a budget like me, go to any craft store and stock up on craft foam! It's like EVA foam but easier to get ahold of. Also, don't ever get defeated. Sometimes it's frustrating, but keep experimenting and eventually you'll get what you were going for.

What is the most negative experience you've dealt with while cosplaying, and how did you handle it?

Sleeves. I freaking hate sleeves.

Any final remarks or shout-outs?

I'll hopefully see everyone at New York Comic Con!
