Hi there! I'm Rachel, I'm 27, and I just got in to cosplay recently after telling myself for years I couldn't do it. Being a cosplayer has been one of the most positive experiences in my life. I get to use my theater background, my love of making people laugh, my artistic eye, and my joy for all things nerdy. You meet so many amazing people, it's fantastic!
I am trying to be more active and lose weight, solely for me for once. I want to take on harder displays with more details, learn to craft things like foam and worbla... I'm so excited for what's next!
LSP (Lumpy Space Princess) Coming soon: Marcy from Chrono Cross, Captain Marvel (my own dress design) and Hatsune Miku
Cosplay to me is a means of expression. I get to create this outfit or costume based on a charcter I love... Then I get to BE that character and entertain others with it. It is a self esteem rebuilder, and outlet for my art, and a way to entertain.
I would say that Teh Princess Cosplay is my truest influence in Cosplay because she taught me that beauty and cosplay is not about size - it's about passion.
Just do it! Don't feel overwhelmed. Give yourself plenty of time- my first cosplay ended up taking a year to get everything together and make it to a con. Don't worry about if you match a character. Yes, my first cosplay was based on being afraid of my body shape (though I still love the cosplay). But get creative! I am doing Captain Marvel. Me in a zentai suit? Nope. So I redesigned her suit into a dress that would flatter me and will be making it. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help! :)
Someone said I was fat and gross. I said "I BET THIS IS BRAD JUST TRYING TO EMBARASS ME. DONT BE JEALOUS BECAUSE YOU CANT HAVE MY LUMPS!!" ... I don't really get phased by these words. Don't give other people your happiness or self esteem. It's not theirs to have .
Shout out to Priscilla Dawn on Etsy for making my adorable dress! Shout out to Charles for getting my to PAX this year. :) Shout out to all the amazing new friends I made at PAX!
