I have been doing cosplay for about five years, though I have dressed up all my life. As a kid, we would go to the Renaissance Festival dressed in period costumes. In High School, I started playing LARPs, beginning with dressing up as characters from Vampire: the Masquerade, a game which I greatly enjoyed, then onto fantasy LARPs. I still LARP, because I love the ability to take on another persona, and fully transform into that character. In recent years, myself, and my family, have been cosplaying at conventions too. We always try and find a costume theme that can include our young son. We did the Pym family from the Avengers comics, and later characters from the Reboot cartoon from the 90's. This year we are doing characters from The Legend of Zelda, a favorite series from my childhood, as well as my son's. We try to encourage our son to know that no matter what, if he can imagine something, it can become a reality, and through costumes, that is demonstrated to him. He loves it, and we love seeing him so happy.
