I am Josh Stark and I love being a cosplayer! I'm fairly new to the scene but I am hooked! For me, the entire process is a lot of fun. Thinking of new costumes to make is exciting. Diving in and starting at square one is fun as well. I like to work on costumes a little bit at a time. It takes me longer than most to complete a costume, but I think that is part of the fun of it. I enjoy working on costumes almost as much as wearing them. The absolute best part about being a cosplayer is seeing someone's face light up when they see you for the first time, especially kids.
Right now I am working on a Sith/Darth Maul Predator.
I started with Indiana Jones and my wife did Tomb Raider. Then I did Big Bad Wolf and she did Little Red Riding Hood. My next project was the Iron Man Mark IV and she went as Pepper Potts. My next costume was Aquaman from the New 52 series and my wife went as Little Mermaid. She is pregnant now so she made an Ursula costume.
Cosplay to me, is like being a celebrity for a day. Being asked for pictures is an amazing feeling. I love being able to show off all the hard work I spent on a costume even if it's only for a few hours. I also really like giving advice and helping others out.
I have gotten a lot of information from http://therpf.com My wife has also been a huge influence on my costuming. Anytime I am stuck on something I can ask her for advice and she will help out. She is also my seamstress! She also helps me get into all my costumes. Without her I could never get into Iron Man or Aquaman!
Never give up. There are so many resources online that any question can be answered. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help. Also, volunteer when you can! I recently took Iron Man to a children's hospital and it was one of my proudest moments. Making someone smile makes all the time and money spent completely worth it.
I honestly haven't had any negative experiences. Everyone has been really kind and considerate when I've been in costume.
I would like to shout out CosAwesome studios!
