Introduction - What is it like being a Cosplayer?

I've only started cosplaying in the last 2 years or so. Cosplay is very challenging, both because of how its perceived publicly and because of politics within the cosplay community. I'm not as skilled with sewing as many others in the community are, so I still purchase and alter a lot of items rather than making everything I wear from scratch. Cosplay takes a lot of confidence, both in saying "I made this" and then in walking around in it in public.
