About Achlime Cosplay

Introduction - What is it like being a Cosplayer?

Hey, I'm Ben, better known as Achlime Cosplay. I'm a Brisbane (Australia) based Cosplayer. Game of Thrones, Anime, Video Games and Pop Culture enthusiast and Graphic Designer by 'trade'. What's it like being a cosplayer? gosh... I find it exciting! I've made a lot of great friends through cosplay.

What are your next goals?

Currently I'm working on Sajin Komamura from Bleach for Supanova 2014 and a few other projects.

Cosplay Characters

Well, I've been cosplaying on and off - I've done Kakashi from Naruto, Reno from Final Fantasy VII and Blade. Although those were all kinda slapped together from years back. I only really got into it last year, where I cosplayed Samwell Tarly from Game of Thrones.

What does Cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay means a lot to me. People are so accepting! You bring your favourite characters to life and you can share that enjoyment with all the other fans. It's brought me a lot of happiness and great friendships.

Who have been your biggest influences/role models/mentors?

I honestly have too many to mention... but I'd say my friends AmenoKitarou (A.K. Wirru) and Variable have been a constant inspiration. Kamui Cosplay of course, Svetlana and Benni's creations are amazing, I've brought all their books and read them cover to cover. But seriously, anyone that gives cosplay a go and puts in the effort I salute you!

Do you have any advice or suggestions for upcoming Cosplayers?

High quality reference material is key! Study them! Never be afraid to take a leap of faith, you'll never know what you might learn :)

What is the most negative experience you've dealt with while cosplaying, and how did you handle it?

As I mentioned before I cosplayed before Samwell... I wasn't exactly met with a warm welcome when I was at conventions in cosplay because I didn't suit the character. A few years went past and I just didn't want to cosplay anymore... I really took it to heart. It took me a long time before I talked myself back into cosplaying. I've found the community at conventions is a lot more accepting these days, cosplay isn't meant to be about what others think of you - you do it for the love and passion you have for the character you're cosplaying - I enjoy sharing my passion with others.

Any final remarks or shout-outs?

Thanks so much for the interview :) Best of luck Drecarus and everyone else following their dreams :)
