What does Cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is belonging to a passionate and inclusive group of people. It's about being able to share your love of a character with other fans and the chance to share a great game or anime or comic, etc, with new people.

Who have been your biggest influences/role models/mentors?

I stumbled across Yaya Han before I knew that cosplay was a thing. Seeing one woman completely embody so many different characters and to such an incredible standard of quality was so eye opening, and inspiring.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for upcoming Cosplayers?

Do your character research for poses and behavior traits. And please, please be confident. It doesn't matter if it's your first cosplay, a store bought cosplay, or something that took you 200+ hours and cost over $1000, what really determines how much fun you have, and how good you look, is your confidence. Also, don't be afraid to ask for advice from cosplayers- in my experience they're more than happy to help you out.

What is the most negative experience you've dealt with while cosplaying, and how did you handle it?

I've found both other cosplayer and the public to be extremely supportive in my cosplaying experience. The closest to a negative experience would have been at PerthNova 14. I was dresses as Dark Mary Marvel in a latex leotard. A man came up to me and told me I was very brave to be wearing something as unforgiving as latex, and if he looked like I did he wouldn't wear it. Before I could say anything in response, I had the two men running the booth l I was browsing at, and a fellow customer (all complete strangers) step and say they loved what I was wearing and thought I looked fantastic. It's really heartwarming to be in a community where people are willing to go out of their way and make people feel good about themselves.
