About Katie

Introduction - What is it like being a Cosplayer?

I have my degree in Theatre Education with an emphasis in acting, and have worked as an actor, teacher, director and model in various cities. For me, cosplaying is like getting to act in a show, except that I don't need a stage, and I can be whatever awesome character I want!

What are your next goals?

I would like to try: Mami from "Mahou Shojou Madoka Magica" Schala from "Chrono Trigger" Princess Ovelia from "Final Fantasy Tactics" Terra from "Final Fantasy VI" Mint from "Threads of Fate" KOS-MOS from "Xenosaga III" Katara from "Avatar: The Last Airbender"

Cosplay Characters

Luna - "Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete" Belldandy - "Ah! My Goddess" Nayru - "The Legend of Zelda" Yuna - "Final Fantasy X" Phoenix - "X-Men" Steampunk

What does Cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay means being able to express your love for something in a fun and interactive way. It gives you the chance to be someone else for a while and bask in the spotlight as much or as little as you'd like. It also allows you to connect with people immediately who have the same passion and interests as you.

Who have been your biggest influences/role models/mentors?

People that I see at conventions who choose to work very hard on costumes for characters that are more obscure; something that they are doing out of admiration for the character, and not for the adoration of the con-goers.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for upcoming Cosplayers?

Honestly, learning how to sew and make your own costumes is the best thing you can do to really feel accomplished. I am still working on that aspect, and often need help on my costumes, but someday I would like to be able to do everything on my own. (Note: I did not make the Phoenix or Yuna costumes, but I have a very talented friend who is excellent at making costumes!)

What is the most negative experience you've dealt with while cosplaying, and how did you handle it?

I haven't had that many, thankfully! :)

Any final remarks or shout-outs?

If you're thinking of trying cosplay for the first time, go for it!! You've got nothing to lose! ^ ^
