Hi! I'm practically brand new to cosplay, I've only made 2 costumes so far (but plan to make a bunch more!). It's pretty fun being a cosplayer so far. I love connecting with people through our favorite characters and seeing little kids excited to see the characters on tv and games brought to life. It's a really fun community to be apart of and I'm glad to have joined it.
Well I want to make Hope Summers for next years comic con so that will include teaching myself how to make a body suit and huge giant gun!
I've only "officially" cosplayed 2 characters, Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite, and Wasp (along with my boyfriend's Ant-man), although I've been sewing and making costumes for a while. My mom and I made all of my Halloween costumes growing up, including a Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) dress from scratch when I was 10!
Cosplay is a form of expression to let the world know how much you freaking love a character!!!!! It's a way to show off your talents and easily form bonds with strangers through mutual interests.
My mom is the one that taught me how to sew so she is definitely my biggest inspiration. She has such amazing ideas, she often helps me figure out how to make certain parts of my costumes! I love seeing her get just as excited as I am about making a costume and telling her all about why I chose them. My mom is the best haha
I would say try to work towards your strengths, for example, I know how to sew really well so I have chosen characters where I can sew the majority of the costume and make that look really good. But, don't be afraid to try new techniques. My boyfriend and I taught ourselves how to fiberglass resin a helmet for his Antman cosplay and that has opened the doors to future costumes and prop/armor building. In addition, cosplaying can be expensive! So make sure you're prepared for how much it is actually going to cost for materials.
I'm lucky in that I've never had any truly awful experiences cosplaying. The worst I've seen is the strange looks on the subway/train/walking down the street but it is kind of weird to see someone walking down the street in costume so I don't pay much attention to them.
Thanks for doing this :) and actually picking me :O , I'm such a nobody haha
