Mad Macha

About Mad Macha

Introduction - What is it like being a Cosplayer?

My name is Stephanie AKA Mad Macha and I've been cosplaying since I was little but over the last few years have started crafting on my own. Cosplaying is my favorite creative outlet and I love sharing the experience with others!

What are your next goals?

I'm teaching myself to sew and no where near the caliber of most though I still find ways to work with what I can do and enjoy it. Worbla and a set of armor is my dream project! Soon!

Cosplay Characters

I've done Arwen from LOTR, Chun Li from Street Fighter, Sode No Shirayuki from Bleach, Neliel from Bleach, Ichigo from Bleach, Ciel Phantomehive from Black Butler, Hatsune Miku of Vocaloid, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, the Tardis from Doctor Who, a Dalek from Doctor Who, Harley Quinn from Batman, working on Poison Ivy from Batman a Trill from Star Trek and my next will be Daenerys from Game of Thrones.

What does Cosplay mean to you?

I work at a Japanese store called Wabi Sabi and host cosplay events all the time. I firmly believe that cosplay shouldn't always be all about accuracy. It should be fun, artful, and about the individualism of the cosplayer. I don't think one should be criticized for being unique and making a character their own. Skill doesn't define you either, you're passion does.

Who have been your biggest influences/role models/mentors?

Bejitaballz Cosplay, Kamui Cosplay, Missyeru, Jynx Art & Cosplay, Jessica Nigari, and Yaya Han.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for upcoming Cosplayers?

Keep trying and don't let any negative feedback get you down. the internet is full of trolls and bastards, when you show up to your first convention in a costume you worked hard to create or put together, it is such a wonderful and accomplished feeling! Don't let lack of skill or knowledge hold you back, work with what you've got or learn!

What is the most negative experience you've dealt with while cosplaying, and how did you handle it?

Mostly just usual internet trolls. the only thing you can do is ignore them, don't let it get to you and feel bad that they have to put other people down to make up for their own lack of self esteem or confidence.

Any final remarks or shout-outs?

Thanks to my husband for beyond supporting me!!!!
