Howdy! I felt a little silly during the drive in costume but once I saw a few more people dressed up that feeling vanished. When the first person stopped me and asked if they could take a picture with me, I knew I found something great. Throughout the weekend I kept getting stopped for photos and posing with other cosplayers and it was unreal. I don't even know how to explain the feeling of person after person coming up and asking to take a selfie or random people just yelling at me to say "dude, you're awesome" I've gotta tell you, it was one heck of a self-esteem booster. It was amazing feeling like a quasi-celebrity for a few hours and people telling me the time and effort I put into making my costume wasn't wasted.
I'm going to work on my sewing, my costume was good for a first timer but now I wan't to really put my heart into it and make a costume I can be really proud of.
Wizard World Chicago 2014 was my first time cosplaying, I have only cosplayed as Bluntman.
It was a break from the real world, a chance to step out of reality for a few hours, have some fun with others doing the same.
Just jump in. Don't waste your time feeling embarrassed, I found most of the other cosplayers to be extremely welcoming. That's my only advice, jump in.
I may have just been lucky but I didn't have any negative experiences, none that come to mind anyway.
Hi John Stamos!
