About Embelievable Cosplay

Introduction - What is it like being a Cosplayer?

Hi my name is Emily and I have been cosplaying for 3 years. Cosplaying is a really fun hobby because it consists of so many different skills, and each time I choose a character I learn a new skill or build on what I already know. The other thing I like about cosplay is that their is a definite feeling of accomplishment with cosplay which I haven't found with any other hobby I've tried.

What are your next goals?

I am currently looking for my next project. I really want to redo my first cosplay (Kitty Pryde) and make it better! I also would love to do some more group cosplays with my friends!

Cosplay Characters

Kitty Pryde from Xmen, Black Widow from Avengers, 11th Doctor from Doctor Who, Clara from Doctor Who, Amy Pond from Doctor Who, Velma from Scooby Doo, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon. Most of these characters are strong female characters. I always cosplay characters that I find interesting because it's the love of the character that encourages you to continue on with the costume when you are struggling.

What does Cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay means fun. It's as simple as that. I have fun learning about the characters, I have fun building the costumes and I have fun wearing the costumes so the whole process is just fun.

Who have been your biggest influences/role models/mentors?

As far as role moles in cosplay I am inspired by Yaya Han, Kellax Productions, Amanda Dawn Cosplay, Jessica LG, KO Cosplay, Riddle, Starbit Cosplay and Santatory Cosplay to name a few.

Do you have any advice or suggestions for upcoming Cosplayers?

Don't get discouraged! There will always be someone else "who did it better" in your eyes, but forget that and just do they best that YOU can do. Everyone starts at the bottom so just keep going and expanding your skill set!

What is the most negative experience you've dealt with while cosplaying, and how did you handle it?

Someone called me a series of offensive words when I was walking to a convention one time. I just ignored it and kept walking to the con.

Any final remarks or shout-outs?

Thanks to Drecarus for the interview and if any budding cosplayers have any questions feel free to message me on my facebook page or via twitter
